Position: Coroners Officer
Salary: Scale 6 (£25,566 - £27,339)
Contract: 2 x Permanent Contracts
Hours: Full Time (37 hours per week)


Applications are invited for the role of Coroners Officer within the jurisdiction of Teesside & Hartlepool based at the Coroner’s Office, Middlesbrough Town Hall, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.


Principal Duties and responsibilities


This is a challenging role that will require the successful candidate to promote and support the Coroner’s Service, in accordance with relevant legislation, perform duties concerning the investigation of deaths reportable to HM Coroner for Teesside & Hartlepool.


Candidates for this investigative role will have experience in working within an extremely stressful environment.  The role requires Officer’s to work independently and as part of a team whilst demonstrating their ability to effectively prioritise workload, manage conflicting demands and decision make.  You must demonstrate excellent communication skills with the emotional resilience to deal with the traumatic nature of the role and grieving relatives.


You must be competent in the use of computer packages such as Microsoft Office and demonstrate competency in keyboard skills due to the necessity to produce timely reports and documentation.


In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving licence and have access to a motor vehicle for business use.

This role is a working day of 8am - 4pm and includes an on-call rota covering from 4pm to 8am. On call working is related to demands of the team and will commence after initial training is complete. The successful applicant will be required to be flexible with their working hours to meet the demands of the busy environment. This role will attract weekend working allowance and standby.
