Police Staff Investigator - Hate Crime

Applications are invited for the post of Police Staff Investigator within Community Safety based at Middlesbrough Police Office, as one of a team dealing with hate crime investigations.

Working as an Investigative Officer you will be responsible for the investigation of crimes in which the victim has been targeted because of their disability, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, transgender identity or religious belief.  

Reporting to the Community Safety Sergeant, responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Interviewing witnesses and complainants using PEACE/PACE interview methods and produce accurate written statements in a form suitable for use as evidence in court proceedings.
• Preparing prosecution case files for offences and where necessary working to achieve CPS action plans.
• Supporting victims of crime through the criminal justice process including working with partner agencies to provide the best and most suitable support
• To gather and present evidence in an ethical manner ensuring that the rules of evidence are complied with.

The successful candidate will have excellent problem solving, communication and decision making skills. Previous experience as an investigator although not essential, would be desirable and advantageous.
